Seal of Biliteracy

The Seal of Biliteracy is an award granted by educational institutions to recognize students who have achieved proficiency in English and at least one other language by the time they graduate from high school. It aims to celebrate multilingualism and encourage language learning, equipping students with valuable skills for global citizenship and enhancing their academic and career prospects. Eligibility typically requires demonstrating language proficiency through standardized tests or coursework. The Seal of Biliteracy acknowledges the importance of bilingualism and cultural literacy in today's interconnected world.

For a student who completes all of the requirements before an agreed upon date, the student will receive:

  • green cord or medal at graduation

  • certificate of the Seal of Biliteracy

  • notation on their transcripts showing the Seal of Biliteracy

  • biliteracy can be noted in Common App, which is an app students can use to apply for colleges
